Swedish Drop Out Orchestra have been kindly enough to send us a set for the monthly Transmission series. I have been admiring their edit and mixing skills for a while now and I always enjoy to listen to their sets. If you'd like some suggestions to Swedish music and where to eat vegetarian food in Lund (a small town in the southern part of sweden) from Drop Out Orchestra, then go here.

Since the Drop Out Orchestra began in 2008, the project has grown from one man and a sampler to a studio team consisting of a music teacher, a studio engineer and a music tech writer. What has remained constant is the mystery regarding their true identity with no names or pictures, ensuring the focus remains on their music.

To date, the troupe have had some seriously big releases, including their Daft Punk cover "International Track", (Released as Drop Out City Rockers, crowned "Essential Tune of the Week" onPete Tong's BBC Radio 1 show and charted at #1 by Fatboy Slim!) their single 'Baby Come Home' and their impeccable remixes of acts like Paul Weller, Flight Facilities, Mario Basanov and Ilija Rudman.

In addition to these official releases Drop Out Orchestra delight in reworking some of pop music’s most iconic figures with the likes of Rick Astley, Robyn, Craig David and The Ramones already treated to the Drop Out magic. Over the last few months they have received huge amounts of love from dance music maestro's such as Aeroplane, Greg Wilson, Jaymo & Andy George, The Magician, Fatboy Slim, Tronik Youth, Mylo, Chris Coco, Annie Mac, Classixx, Laidback Luke, Seamus Haji & more.

The dropouts have set out to deliver a dj performance out of the ordinary with added live bass and percussion playing on top of an intense mix of unique edits, loops and acapellas. Since their live debut just before Christmas last year the touring orchestra - consisting of two people - have played a string of gigs in their native Sweden and all over Europe, including EGO in Hamburg, rated by DJ Magazine as one of the 100 best clubs in the world.

I've been doing my thing on this blog now since 2007. On the nets that's like forever so I guess I can call myself a veteran by now. A lot has happened since the start and a lot of you has stuck around even when me myself didn't have the time to post much. Thank you! 2012 is a new year, a year of big change in every department of life which I think a lot of you can agree on. One new thing here is that I will post exclusive DJ-sets by different producers and DJs that are interesting and that I like. There will be both well-known DJs, but also more unknown talents. I will call them Disco's Transmission. Let's start with one favourite of mine.

Name In Lights

Stockholm based Name In Lights consists of Emir Fönk Krkic, Filip Dr Ill Johnsson and David lil;D Irigoyen. I think a lot of you remember the 12" Eld & Lågor from 2010 released on the FEED label. You can also hear the title track from my own set from last year. They've also made great reworks that you can hear on their soundcloud.

To introduce this marvelous set that they were kind enough to do for us I will let Emir say it in his own words:

"We made a set, it became more of a dancemix than we thought in the beginning. We brought both disco and house records when we were going to record the set, but in the end it became house anyway. It sounds like our debut on Wurst that is coming out this spring."

The masters in manufacturing good music out of what they love this year was Tiger & Woods, which they made very clear with their full length album Through The Green. Continuing from last years' bomb Out Of Bounds EP with the superb Love In Camodgia it seems like we'll be hearing more from Tiger & Woods in the future. Mixed emotions, that's the best way to express how I felt towards Drake... Until now! From his previous album I loved Find Your Love, but I've been a little ashamed of admitting it. But this time I'm hooked for real. Marvins Room helped me to realise that Drake is one of our times greatest rnb singers and composers. His latest album Take Care makes me think about Marvin Gaye's album Here My Dear rather than any contemporary artist, and that is an achievement in itself. Drake and The Weeknd has saved rnb from ruin and made it interesting again after many years of being doomed to mainstream trash billboard lists. Having Dennis Graham (Jerry Lee Lewis' drummer) as father and Larry Graham (Graham Central Station/Sly & The Family Stone) and Hi Records guitarist Teenie Hodges as uncles he couldn't probably have better pre-conditions. The future in rnb comes from Canada.

About a week ago I had the chance to have a gig together with tunisian rapper and living legend El General. A humble and great guy I hope to work with and meet again. For you who don't know him...

December 17 2010 Mohamed Bouazizi RIP set himself on fire to protest the oppression that he suffered from the authorities. Around the same time 21 year old rapper Hamada Ben Amor aka El General released the song Rayes lebled (Head of State ie) where he raps directly to the president to tell him that his people are dying and suffering. These two important events sparkled the revolution in Tunisia which was the start of the whole arab spring in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Bahrain.

This is the most influential hip hop track ever, not in a musical perspective, but politically and in a revolutionairy perspective so I just had to put this up for y'all.

Solomon Burke RIP 1940-2010

Today Solomon Burke died at Amsterdam airport. He was 70 years old. He's been recording music since the early sixties and had hits as Just Out of Reach of My Open Arms, Cry To Me and Everybody Needs Somebody to Love. Even though he had these hits during the sixties he never broke through big commercially and in the 70s he left the big scene. 2002 he released the beautiful album Don't Give Up On Me which at last gave him the recognition he deserved. May you rest in peace Solomon and may alot of people discover your music in the future.

Here's something a little different. This isn't dance music, not at all. Something that I'm weak for is good spanish music from the 60's and 70's and one of the greatest is the catalan singer and poet Joan Manuel Serrat. The rebel that released records in catalan even though it was forbidden during the regime of Franco to sing or talk in any other language than spanish or castellano as it is called. He even refused to sing in the Eurovision Song Contest because the authorities wouldn't let him sing in catalan. Because of that his records were banned and burned on the streets. A true catalan hero in other words. Here is three great songs. I hope you like it...

Long time no see. I haven't been nice to you lately leaving you waiting so long for that good sweet music. Well, as they say, if you wait for something good...
Sometimes I catch myself thinking about how some things were much better back in the days, well they weren't actually, things get better all the time, but anyway... Do you for example remember when MTV used to play music videos? There were shows as Yo! MTV Raps and Chill Out Zone to name two. One show that I liked a lot was 3 from 1 where they showed three videos in a row by the same artist. So when I was dreaming about the past I thought, Why not do 3 from 1 posts since I don't have time to post stuff every day? Good idea, right?

Well, to get things started I'd like to pull this thing off with one of my absolute favourite producers since a couple of years back. The Revenge from Glasgow, Scotland. They have been doin' some heavy stuff in Glasgow lately. It doesn't matter if they take a disco classic by Michael Wycoff, megahits by Marvin Gaye or forgotten Stevie Wonder stuff. This DFA-act has been delivering good music for a while now and 2009 were no different in that aspect. This year was also the first time that I had the chance to see them live. Although their was not many people who showed up at their gig at debaser in Sthockholm and they had problems with the sound at the beginning, they made an excellent performance and I'd love to see them again in the future. Their album The Future Will Come is filled with great electronic dance music. I had a hard time picking just one song from the album. If you like the song I picked you should go and check out the whole album.

Florence + The Machine - You've Got The Love (Jamie XX Re-work)

One of the most smart and original covers the past year came from one of the most interesting bands that came through, Florence + The Machine. The Source feat Candi Staton's clubclassic from 1991 got new life through this version and even if you didn't love the original I think you will find this version as beautiful as I have done.

The Very Best - Angonde

One of the most hyped records during the past year was The Very Best's album Warm Heart Of Africa. The Very Best consists of Radioclit and singer Esau Mwamwaya from Malawi. As you might have noticed I'm very fond of african music and especially dance oriented stuff. The Very Best has done the whole world a big favour by putting african music on the international club scene and hopefully we will see a lot more of this in the future. The album consists of several good songs like the title song which became a minor hit, but my favourite right now is the more clubby Angonde. I hope you like it as much as I do.

One of the most intense albums of the last year must have been Fuck Button's Tarot Sport. I realised that when I was at the gym the other day running and had the album playing in the ipod. I just felt like running like crazy, and so I did. People must have looked at me and thought that I wasn't quite sane. But WTF. This is my nomination for the best gymalbum of 2009!

After some really good 12"'s in 2008 like Kuk av stål norwegian Blackbelt Andersen released his first full length album which really is a compilation of his singles with a couple of new tracks added to it. The album shows that he is a norwegian we can count on. The whole album is great!

Hello everyone!
I hope you had a great new year's eve. I had a great night and I'm very excited about what this year has in store for me. Every new year is like a new start in life. Right now I'm catching up musically with 2009. During the last year I have mostly been lost in the 70's and 80's and edits of that period. Now I'm listening to alot of the things that I missed during the year and I will spread it with you all. Starting of with someone called Bibio. His album Ambivalence Avenue is a beautiful musical journey through different types of music like pop, hip hop, ambient and soul. Impossible to categorise, impossible not to like.
