I bet you have a record at home that you grew up with that you dug out of your parents record shelf that you don't listen so much to anymore. But, when you put that needle on the record it still moves you every time. Why don't you put your hard-drive aside for a day and dig out your old favorite records?
In a time when every other song is an edit or a remix it's nice to go back to a time when you looked forward to hearing the extended version or if the 12" had an extraordinary remix. Well, this mix might not be extraordinary but oh so classic!
This is so beautiful the world stands still. Everyones' favourite Nicolas Jaar's Darkside project is like a blend between Studio and Weeknd and is a perfect soundtrack to when you're wondering why you're home blogging on a friday night. Take care out there and listen carefully to this beautiful piece of music.
I've been doing my thing on this blog now since 2007. On the nets that's like forever so I guess I can call myself a veteran by now. A lot has happened since the start and a lot of you has stuck around even when me myself didn't have the time to post much. Thank you! 2012 is a new year, a year of big change in every department of life which I think a lot of you can agree on. One new thing here is that I will post exclusive DJ-sets by different producers and DJs that are interesting and that I like. There will be both well-known DJs, but also more unknown talents. I will call them Disco's Transmission. Let's start with one favourite of mine.
Name In Lights
Stockholm based Name In Lights consists of Emir Fönk Krkic, Filip Dr Ill Johnsson and David lil;D Irigoyen. I think a lot of you remember the 12" Eld & Lågor from 2010 released on the FEED label. You can also hear the title track from my own set from last year. They've also made great reworks that you can hear on their soundcloud.
To introduce this marvelous set that they were kind enough to do for us I will let Emir say it in his own words:
"We made a set, it became more of a dancemix than we thought in the beginning. We brought both disco and house records when we were going to record the set, but in the end it became house anyway. It sounds like our debut on Wurst that is coming out this spring."
2) Mark E - Call Me (Dixon Edit) 3) What About Never - ??? 4) Name In Lights - 19naughtyNow 5) Andreas Saag - Back To Life 6) K.A.T.O - The Booty Dance (Nicholas Rae Interpretation) 7) Manuel Tur - About To Fall 8) Marvin Dash - Workshop ??? 9) Royal Oak - ??? 10) Muslim Disco Club - Alma 11) Carter Bros. - Run 12) Todd Terje - Inspector Norse 13) Love Unlimited Vibes ??? 14) James Bradley - Im into deep
Ska and reggae isn't the typical music that I usually post here, but for the last 24h I've been really hooked into that good old ska music again. And don't you agree that the skinheads are the best looking cats in town. The Ben Sherman shirts, the braces and those Doc Martins boots are just made to look bloody sharp in. And why not to this marvelous ska classic?
You know that feeling you get when you listen to a really gay and happy italo disco song that is really a little silly but you can't help but loving it? Do I make any sense? Well, that is just the feeling that Todd Terje's Inspector Norse gives me. And that's good. Really good!!!
Todd has started this year real promising with this plus the Roxy Music 12". Who knows what we can expect from this norwegian from here on. Keep on the good work Todd!
Wow! I wasn't expecting to find this one today. The first classic this year comes not surprisingly from Norge! After being everyones favorite last year with Ragysh and Snooze 4 Love,Todd Terje is back with a Roxy Music edit you can kill for. This will be my first vinyl buy this year!
Returning to my first musical love. Motown! This beautiful track by Eddie Holland was the b-side to his last record as a performing artist. After this he continued his career in the background writing hits together with his brother Brian and Lamont Dozier, the trio better known as Holland-Dozier-Holland. But what a lovely track to end his solo career with, don't you agree? Motown 4 life...
About a month ago I found this beautiful rework of Deelat's Wetness Anthem (from the wonderful 90's label Crydamoure) which in itself is beautiful as it is, so I was impressed when I heard this one. I had so much around me at the time though so I forgot to post it. Here it is for your pleasure downloadable at L'Étranger's soundcloud!
