"Pat Benatar?" Yes! And it's a strong number that's being delivered as well. Personally I think this extended version remixed by John Jellybean Benitez is better than the album version. Especially the guitar part in the end. It's a song I've liked for a long time but for some reason I hadn't posted it before, so here you go.

This Philly chick debuted as early as the mid 60's and mostly recorded sweet soul music on labels such as Curtom and Buddah. When the lovely 70's came with it's funky disco music she started recording for Prelude and West End, and man are we thankful for that. This song remains one of her very best in my opinion.

Here's one cool piece of wax that I bought about a month ago. The thing that got me hooked on this song the first time I heard it was that The Supermen Lovers had sampled it to their hit Starlight. Although the sampled part of the song is great, the whole track stands strong on its own. Enjoy!

This has always been a favourite but for some reason I haven't bought the album 'til now. While chasing those obscure and rare records it's easy to skip the obvious classics sometimes. Yesterday I bought it and my favourite song on Street Sense, 212 North 12th is still rockin' and as good as it was the first time I heard it. A true disco classic.

Some of you might remember my post last year where I posted Mayer Hawthorne and The County - Just Ain't Gonna Work Out. I found his new video that I thought I would share with you and at the same time put up that old good Just Ain't Gonna Work Out song again.

It's time for a little bit of that Motown sound again. This time with The Temptations. By the time the single My Baby / Don't Look Back first came out in September 1965 they were already big stars with hits as My Girl, It's Growing and The Way You Do The Things You Do. One of the main factors for their early success was the Smokey Robinson production that characterized their songs so much. This was their third Smokey hit in a row, and it was not only the A-side that hit the charts, the strong B-side Don't Look Back made it as well.
For me it's Don't Look Back that is the main song on this single and it is also the first time in a long time with Paul Williams on lead vocals which I think makes this song so special. The first time I heard this song though was on the version that Peter Tosh and Mick Jagger recorded in 1978 to the classic LP Bush Doctor. I always loved that song, but the original motown version is the best. Take a listen for yourself.

Former Bar-Kays member Vernon Burch started out his solo career with his album I'll Be Your Sunshine. He later went to record for Chocolate City Records, which also recorded The New York City Players - which later became Cameo - and Brenda And The Tabulations. Though I haven't listened to much of the stuff he recorded, he had a good start with his solo career, maybe not hitwise, but musically. This is a great early disco classic like alot of other early disco songs fits in to the modern soul field as well.
